Senate promise to probe Ex-CJN Tanko Muhammed
Following the resignation of Justice Ibrahim Muhammad Tanko as the Chief Justice Of Nigeria, the Red Chamber has on Tuesday, 28th of June, 2022, promised to probe the legal luminary.
This motion to probe Justice Tanko was moved by the Chairman of Senate Committee on Judiciary Matters, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, from Ekiti State and a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The motion which was moved by Senator Bamidele was tagged, State of Affairs In The Supreme Court Of Nigeria and Demand By Justices of the Court.
Recall that the senate had earlier charged the aforementioned senate committee to look into the affairs of the Judiciary last week which the senate now agreed to let the committee proceed on finding a listing solution to the issue at hand by the consultation of various stakeholders.
They are now ready to answer to the complaints laid before them by the Justices of the Supreme Court. The Senate also tasked the committee with interacting with the three arms in the Government, the Bar and the Bench coupled with relevant stakeholders.
Senator Bamidele also claimed that the state of the judicial system is poor while moving the motion and their delivery to judgements being poor which will ultimately derail their optimal performance.
However, the senator expressed his regrets for the Justice resignation but also concluded by saying that it will not prevent the committee from going ahead with its assignment in the quest to find a probable lasting solution to the matter.
