TOPIC: A SACRIFICE-STIMULATING LOVE

FOR READING & MEDITATION:  SONGS OF SOLOMON 8:6-7.

6 “Seal me in your heart with permanent betrothal, for love is strong as death, and jealousy is as cruel as Sheol. It flashes fire, the very flame of Jehovah.

7 Many waters cannot quench the flame of love, neither can the floods drown it. If a man tried to buy it with everything he owned, he couldn’t do it.”

MEDITATE

The scripture text for our meditation today captures the desire of one of Solomon's many wives for more love from Him. But far more than that, we are going to be meditating here on genuine and passionate love for our God. If we love our wives and husbands, brothers and sisters the way God expect us to, the Bible says that we will not need to keep any other law because we would have fulfilled every other law.

When the scripture says; “Many waters cannot quench the flame of love” (Songs of Solomon 8:7), we see how important and how powerful it is for one to love God with all of one's heart.  It is making sure that in proclaiming the gospel of God, we do not lose touch with the love of God.

The Bible qualifies this kind of love as a “seal of Love on the heart and a love that is stronger than death”. (Songs of Solomon 8:6).  It is this kind of love that God expects from His children. It is a wholehearted love, love that demands sacrifice. It is this kind of love that made:

1. Jesus to die on the cross for us. That is, He died in your place - substitutionary death. Apostle Peter restates this in 1 Peter 3:18 when He says; “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit”. And in Romans 5:6 we read: “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly”.

2. Jacob serves Laban for Rachel seven more years. The Bible says; “And Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed unto him but a few days, because of the love he had for her" (Genesis 29:20).

There is nothing you cannot do for a person you really love. Even when other people see it as suffering, you will find joy in doing it. This is the kind of love that God demands from every disciple of His. When we paraphrase what Jesus said in Matthew 10:37, we would come up with something like; “If you wouldn't love me this way, don't love me at all”.  I pray for you that such love will begin to spring from within you from today.

VERSE OF THE DAY: "Seal me in your heart with permanent betrothal, for love is strong as death and jealousy is as cruel as sheol" (S.o.S  8:6 TLB).

QUOTE:  “There is nothing you cannot do for a person you really love”.

PRAYER: Lord, I want to sacrifice more in loving you, give me your grace to start doing so without relenting, in Jesus' name, Amen.
